Weight Pull

Weight Pull

Weight pulling is a dog sport involving a dog pulling a cart or sled loaded with weight a short distance across dirt/gravel, grass, or snow. Many breeds participate in this sport, with dogs being separated into classes by weight. The race categories are as follows:

A. 12 lbs and under

B. 13 lbs to 25 lbs

C. 26 lbs to 50 lbs

D. 51 lbs to 75 lbs

E. 76 lbs and UP

The dog is hitched to the cart or sled with a specially constructed harness designed to spread the weight and minimize the chance of injury. The distance of the pull is feet 16 feet.  For each pull the dog has 30 seconds to start the pull once they are harnessed and the owner is at the finish line.

The sled, the weight and the harnesses are provided by the American Dog Derby but if you have a harness please feel free to bring it along with you. There will be prizes for the first, second, and third place winners in each category. The prizes are courtesy of PetSmart of Idaho Falls, Idaho. We thank PetSmart for their continued support each year.
